WEIGHT LOSS
Do you feel like you’re stuck in a constant cycle of yoyo dieting?
Have you been doing all the fad diets, gym challenges and not getting results?
Are you confused because you’ve restricted your diet, but nothing is changing? Feel like giving up? There could be something else going on.
From a naturopathic perspective there are a variety of different things that could be contributing to weight loss resistance:
STRESS: Stress can impact hormonal balance, affecting fluid retention.
MICROBIOME: There are certain strains of bacteria that can affect weight. These can drive cravings, increase appetite, negatively influence blood sugar and cause weight gain. Rebalancing the digestive microbiome are effective in reducing inflammation, fluid retention and improving metabolism.
THYROID ISSUES: Your thyroid regulates the speed of your metabolism. Your thyroid is extremely sensitive to changes in nutrients, stress levels and hormonal changes (like pregnancy and menopause) and, when under-active, can cause you to gain weight, feel fatigued and lose motivation to exercise and diet.
TOXIC LOAD: Toxins from our environment or food can store in fat tissue and the higher the stores of toxins in our adipose (fat) cells, it can slow or hinder the breakdown of fat
ENZYMES AND NUTRIENTS: The process of fatty acid oxidation - turning fat into energy. If nutrient levels are low, it can impact how efficiently these enzymes can work to allow us to burn fat.
HORMONAL IMBALANCES: Excess oestrogen will affect fluid retention and lipid processing. Excess oestrogen and other hormones can also lurk in the fat cells and prevent or slow their break down.
Weight loss isn't as simple as - calories in vs. calories out. If this oversimplified equation isn't working, it’s time to dig deeper.
